Award Total: $59,000-$74,000

  • $47,500 for your salary/stipend
  • $11,500 to cover fringe benefits and other allowable expenses (health insurance, relocation, academic tuition, journal publication fees, and academic- and fellowship-related travel, conference, online training and workshop expenses)
  • Up to $15,000 for host office-related travel (dependent on host office selection)

October2019 NOAA releases 2021 Federal Funding Opportunity and Maryland Sea Grant opens the Knauss Fellowship application process
Nov. 2019 - Jan. 2020 Draft applications in eSeaGrant; Candidate interviews at Maryland Sea Grant
21 February 2020 at 5 PM Fellowship applications submitted to Maryland Sea Grant by official deadline
March 2020 Maryland Sea Grant panel selects and submits up to six finalist application packets to National Sea Grant program for the national competition
June 2020 Selection process and subsequent notification to Sea Grant programs of selected finalists completed.
October 2020 Discuss placement week travel and reimbursement with Maryland Sea Grant
November 2020 Placement week in Washington, D.C.
January 2021 Knauss orientation at Maryland Sea Grant to complete paperwork
13 Januray 2021 Submit photo and biographical sketch to Maryland Sea Grant
January 2021 Submit all required Human Resources paperwork to Maryland Sea Grant
1 February 2021 Fellowship starts
March 2021 Knauss welcome reception and dinner on Capitol Hill
31 January 2022 Fellowship ends; final report due to Maryland Sea Grant and NOAA
