White Perch

These fish (Morone americana) are extensively fished in Maryland rivers and streams. Like their close cousins the striped bass, white perch also complete annual migrations. They swim from upstream in freshwater rivers downstream toward the Bay and back again.

To learn about new research into white perch migrations, read “Lending an Ear,” a feature article in Chesapeake Quarterly, Maryland Sea Grant's magazine.

Learn about how ecosystem-based fisheries management — management that considers the whole ecosystem, not just single species — can help striped bass and other species.
