Purpose:

This Maryland Forest Service program provides financial incentive for forest landowners to manage their land. Eligible participants receive deductions on their Maryland state income tax. Approximately 30 to 50 landowners participate in the program annually.

Available Funding:

Participants can deduct double the cost of reforestation and timber stand improvement practices (less any cost-share assistance received through other programs) on their Maryland state income tax. This deduction is subtracted from the federal adjusted gross income.

Conservation and harvesting trees to restore, enhance, or measurably increase the likelihood of recovery of a threatened or endangered species, must improve biological diversity, or increase carbon sequestration
