Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture

Research to support the implementation of ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM) is integral to building a comprehensive approach to conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of Maryland’s coastal resources. Success will require:
- Investigations of fishery population trends and targets and their effects on ecosystems
- A better understanding of the needs of and engagement strategies for multiple audiences with different priorities (including recreational and commercial fishers, the seafood and aquaculture industries, and consumers)
- Improved models for understanding Chesapeake Bay fishery scenarios
Maryland Sea Grant will address these themes by supporting natural and social sciences, synthesizing and translating research results, and engaging stakeholders in the movement toward ecosystem-based fisheries management.
