Purpose:

Through NOAA's Marine Debris Program (MDP), the Marine Debris Removal Grant and Marine Debris Prevention Grant catalyze the implementation of locally driven, community-based marine debris prevention and removal projects that will benefit coastal habitat, waterways, and wildlife including migratory fish.

Marine Debris Removal Grant: $50,000 to $250,000; Marine Debris Prevention Grant: $50,000 to $150,000

Restoration Activity:

Projects funded through the MDP have strong on-the-ground habitat components involving the removal of marine debris and derelict fishing gear, as well as activities that provide social benefits for people and their communities in addition to long-term ecological habitat improvements for NOAA trust resources.

Eligibility:

State, local, tribal, and territory governments whose activities affect research or regulation of marine debris; any institution of higher education; nonprofit organization; and commercial (for-profit) organization with expertise in a field related to marine debris. Applications from federal agencies or employees of federal agencies will not be considered.
